Emerging Stars jet back with focus on second leg

The Kenya U23 National team, the Emerging Stars, is back home from Sudan where the team was involved in an Africa U23 Cup of Nations cum Olympics Qualifier.

Kenya fell 2-0 in the first leg, a result that coach Francis Kimanzi termed disappointing, with the boys having given a good account of themselves.

“It’s a game that I think we were unlucky not to have picked up something. We gave out our all and I believe we should have had a better result,” said coach Kimanzi.

He, however, noted that the result is behind them and that the team is focused on Tuesday’s return leg.

“We still have a chance on Tuesday in spite of the two-goal deficit and I am confident that we’ll get a positive result,” he said.

The second leg is slated for Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at the MISC Kasarani, with the winner on aggregate set to face off with either of Libya or Nigeria in the third and final qualifying round.

The third round winner will grace the Africa U23 Cup of Nations, set to be held in Egypt in November 2019. The tourney will act as a qualifier to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan.
