England fans disappointed with draw against Slovakia

England fans voiced their frustration following their 0-0 draw against Slovakia in their final game of Group B at Euro 2016 on Monday.

Roy Hodgson’s men failed to find a way past a packed Slovakian defence, meaning that they finish second in the Group, behind Wales, but still qualify for the knock-out stages of the competition.

Most fans were critical of Hodgson’s decision to make six changes from the 2-1 victory over Wales, claiming just Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge should have been brought into the side.

“Created chances. Dele Alli off the line, Rooney chance near the end, Lallana same thing, he’s had two or three in each game. Just couldn’t get the goal, if we’d have got the goal it would have been a canter. But we’re through, we’ll take second place and see what that brings. But it will be interesting to see how we do when we play a team that will be able to test us, because at the minute it’s just defence against attack.

“You have to beat these teams if you want to win it, we’re going to have to play somebody good eventually. Yeah it is disappointing because when you watch the match. We should have rolled Russia over, we gave that away in the last minute. And bar a late show against Wales we would have been in a little bit of bother now. So we’ll take that, we’ll take second and see what that brings. If that brings France, we’ll take France,” one said.

He however, refused to blame the manager Hodgson.

“I don’t think so. There’s not much you can do as a manager. The ball just won’t go in the net. You need one player. We couldn’t break them down, we couldn’t get the ball to the edge of the area enough into that gap and make that chance. Like we did against Wales. Sturridge, into Vardey who laid it off. Couldn’t make that little bit of a chance, that little bit of luck. I’m not sure what else he could have possibly have done.”

Meanwhile, Slovakian fans were largely pleased with the draw, but admitted that they themselves were poor going forward in a dreary game.

“Probably, we will see you know. It was quite important to get one point. We got it and now we have to look forward and focus on how to play better and so on and so on. We are happy for now, but the game, as we said before, was not what we expected. But what most of the fans expected, but ok.

“Actually England were in the same position. You also needed to get one point to go on and you got it and if one of the teams had to win the game, the game would have been a little bit different,” a Slovak supporter noted.
