Equity hit KPA to take playoff final series lead

Equity Bank defeated KPA 64-59 at the Nyayo Gymnasium as they surged ahead into a 2-1 lead in their Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) playoff final series.

Champions KPA won Game One on home court during the midweek but Equity clawed back to win Game Two and – playing at home for the first time in the series – powered ahead on Saturday.

Equity can seal the title on Sunday if they win Game Four of the five-match series and with the momentum on their side, head coach David Kamau says they cannot afford to let it slip.

“Tomorrow we will come out strongly because we don’t want to play game five, we want to go all out from the word go so as to finish the series tomorrow.

“We had to change our defense in the second half after trailing in the first half since we realized we are giving KPA open shoots and it worked if you look at the final results,” Kamau said.

KPA head coach Anthony Ojukwu said that his girls did well despite the defeat but asked for more “focus and concentration” ahead of the crucial Game Four.

“We seemed to control the game till but we switched off and they hit a three point that brought them to the game”.

Both teams will represent the country in zone five Championship next year. The KPA men’s team was declared champions last weekend after defeating Ulinzi Warriors in the final.
