Ex-CS Echesa says Sports Ministry must pay Leopards

The immediate former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has vowed to follow through and ensure AFC Leopards are paid the KSh1.7 million as pledged during his time in office.

Last month, Echesa promised the Sports Ministry would clear outstanding player allowances at the Den during a time when their floundering start to the season was linked to a go-slow.

Echesa, who has since been fired and replaced by Amina Mohamed, said he made the promise in his capacity as CS and thus the monies must be paid to Leopards.

“I talked on behalf of the government and the money will still be issued to the club. I will follow up it up with my colleague Amina and ensure that they get their money.

“We didn’t have a deadline as such because mostly government money do not have a deadline,” he said.

Echesa was part of the ‘rescue committee’ that set out to help marshal Leopards back among the top Kenyan Premier League (KPL) places after they had sank into the bottom.

The 12-time champions climbed to 16th – the promotion playoff position – last week after defeating Sony Sugar 1-0 at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.
