The late Kevin Oliech, a former Mathare United and Thika United player who succumbed to cancer on August 16 in Germany will be laid to rest this Saturday at the family’s rural home in Seme, Kisumu County.

Family spokesperson Nixon Onywanda Oliech told Citizen Digital that the deceased body is scheduled to arrive from Germany today evening.

“As a family we have been working tirelessly to ensure the body of our deceased member is brought to Kenya… we have secured a plane from Germany and it will land on Thursday night accompanied by family and friends.

He added: “From the airport the body will be taken to Umash Funeral Home where we’ve been directed that only 40 people will be allowed in the morgue as per the directives by the Government.”

“The body will stay there till Friday morning after which it will be transported to Seme in Kisumu County on Friday, followed by the his final journey on Saturday morning.”

“We haven’t been told about the number of mourners to be allowed in our home. We understand during this Covid-19 period only 100 people are allowed but as you know Kevin (the deceased) was a big name hence I am sure they will give us a huge number.  As a family we will ensure that we provide a big space to accommodate a good number of people as per the social distancing directives.”

Nixon however said that they haven’t organized a major funds drive due to the Covid-19 pandemic adding that they’ve raised ‘a little amount’ online which will cater for the funeral expenses.

Apart from Mathare and Thika, Oliech also turned out for other Kenyan Premier League clubs Nairobi City Stars, Tusker, Ushuru and defunct Securicor.
