Former cricket ace Obuya set for top class coaching

Former Kenya international cricketer, David Obuya began the journey to top level coaching of the gentleman’s game on Sunday when he completed a high profile Australia high performance level three coaching course that was held in Kowloon Hong Kong from 17th to 22nd October 2016.

The five day event which was staged at the five star Regal Oriental Hotel, Kowloon Cricket Club and Mission Road Field was conducted by celebrated Australian coaches who included Jonathan Connor, John Hayes, Darren Holder, Jeff Thomas and Charlie Burke.

A total of 24 participants drawn from Asia, Africa, America and Europe were selected for the specialized training.

The participation of the 36 year old Obuya (a right hand batsman and wicket keeper) marks the first time that a Kenyan coach has been invited for the highly respected Australian high performance development program. Only four Kenyan coaches have so far attained the level three skills recently through the South Africa program. They include Uganda coach Steve Tikolo, current national coach Thomas Odoyo, Botswana coach Joseph Angara and Martin Suji.

Obuya has engaged in coaching the youth at the Obuya Academy in Nairobi. He has also managed to tap talent from across the country through youth centers in Vihiga, Machakos and Homabay
