Ex-Leopards tactician Casa takes coaching break

AFC Leopards immediate former head coach Andre Casa Mbungo has announced that he is “taking leave” from football until the end of the season before he can consider any offer.

This is despite the Rwandan having claimed to have received numerous offers after resigning from his Leopards job on December 30.

Mbungo who is currently in Kigali, Rwanda after parting ways with the 12-time Kenyan champions has been spending his free time mainly in stadia, watching Rwandan league matches with no pressure on his shoulders, after a difficult stint at Leopards, bedecked by financial pitfalls.

“Not now, till next season is when offers will start streaming in; I’m sure,” he said when asked of his immediate plans. “I have received some offers though but I want to relax a bit.

“I know that many clubs don’t have budgets for now to hire coaches till the end of the season and so I will not jump into one hastily but wait,” he added.

“Even from Kenya I know I will get calls from many clubs,” a confident Mbungo said shortly before heading to the stadium to watch Rayon Sport tackle Gasogi United, a contest won by the former 1-0.

The former Ruyovu coach is however well informed of the developments at Leopards.

Ingwe are walking a tight-financial rope that culminated in Mbungo’s exit with several players also heading for the exit door.

Brian Marita and Dennis Sikhayi have both left the club, the latter penning a deal with money-bags Wazito FC while midfield maestro Whyvone Isuza has also severed ties with the big cats to join the big-spending Wazito.

Mbungo-less Leopards handed Zoo FC a humiliating 4-1 thrashing at Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday to move to seventh on the log on 25 points, seven behind leaders Gor Mahia.

The 12-time champions face Posta Rangers tomorrow at Kenyatta Stadium from 4:15pm.
