Expect carnage at the den Simbas taunt Uganda

The national rugby 15s team, Simbas are intent on successfully defending their Elgon Cup title as they prepare to welcome Uganda for the second leg of the competition on Saturday.

The Simbas will host their fierce neighbours at the RFUEA Ground carrying a 23-18 advantage secured during the opening leg played in Kampala on June 10 eyeing what would be a tenth title.

Simbas Team Manager was in a bullish mood on Wednesday as he fired warning shots aimed at the visitors.

“This is the lion’s den, what do you expect when a crane enters a lion’s den? definitely the feathers has to fly,” Simiyu declared.

Having won the first leg by a narrow margin, Simiyu said he expects the second clash to be a tight affair and while he acknowledged the visitors are a greatly improved side, they are odds on to carry the day.

“We want to make sure we celebrate our tenth win of the Elgon cup and at the same time we make sure we begin on a good footing by winning against Uganda.

“During the first leg we pointed out some weaknesses like when we are in the lead we normally put our leg out of the peddle, but this time the acceleration has to be full on until the last time whistle,” Simiyu stated.

Kenyan Coach Jerome Paarwaters is expected to name the final squad for Saturday’s match on Thursday June 22, 2017.

As the two brace for the showdown, not only will the regional bragging rights at stake but also the African rugby rankings as the match doubles up as a Rugby Africa Gold cup encounter.

Frenchman Laurent Cardona, who officiates in the French Top 14, will take charge of the match with the assistance of Zimbabwean Tinashe Kamwenje and Madagascar’s Stephane Rakotonirainy.

Regular tickets of the match are available at KSh400 with a limited number of VIP tickets retailing at KSh1000.

Fans will still be able to purchase tickets at the RFUEA Ground on game day for KSh500.
