Gicharu floors Akoko in bantamweight fight

The 2010 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Benson Gicharu of Kenya Police outclassed Kevin Akoko of Kisumu 3-0 to win the bantamweight clash as the fourth leg of the National Boxing League boxed-off at Madison Square Garden in Nakuru today.
Akoko was no match for the experienced policeman who had it easy in the three rounds of the bout.
In another bantamweight clash, Simon Kinuthia of Omar Kassongo Sports Academy (OKSA) managed a 2-1 win over Hazad Nasiri of Coast Combined.
Hamza Saidi of Kongowea also secured a 2-1 win over Juma Abdul of Kenya Prisons in another fight of the same weight (bantamweight).

In the  light-flyweight category, experienced Matayo Keya of Kenyatta National Hospital defeated Joshua Maina of Kibra 3-0 in a one sided affair.
Fresh from the World Boxing Championships in Germany last month, Shaffi Bakari of Kenya Police defeated Kelvin Michira of Kenya Defence Forces on unanimous points decision in another light flyweight match.
In other matches of the same category, Homeboy Lemid Thiong’o of Nakuru ABC secured a 2-1 win over Martin Maina of Thika, as Martin Mutwiri managed a 3-0 victory over Mohammed Hussein of OKSA.
In the final preliminary match of the light flyweight bout, Kevin Wasia of Kongowea lost 3-0 to Nichodemus Kinuthia of Githurai44 Club.
