Kenya’s Western Region Champions Ibinzo Girls easily defeated hosts Mukono 2-0, keeping alive their quest to win maiden Federation of East African Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSA) football title, in the fourth day of the event in Gulu, Uganda.

Ibinzo finished top in Group C, ahead of Mukono who were leading the pool before the match. Head coach Edgar Akhonya has lauded his girls for their character in the win, saying they focus enabled them overcome the home team.

“We came into the match knowing Mukono had won the previous two group matches. The rule is clear that as winners of this pool C, we will play the best loser in pool A that’s why girls played their hearts out to secure an easy opponent in the quarters.

However, most Kenyan teams had it rough in various disciplines, with Kenyan boys National Champions (football) Upper Hill suffering their third straight loss (2-1) to Rwanda’s Collage Karambi. Douglas Mokaya solo effort in the first half was not enough to spare Upper Hill, as Karambi rallied to send them home without a point.

“This is the effect of poor preparations. After the Nyeri nationals we did not have even a day to train, the general elections affected us so much. In fact, some of our players joined us on the way here,” lamented Joseph Makokha, Upper Hill’s coach.

In other results Kenyan volleyball National Champions Kwanthanze Girls kept their hunt for the regional title alive winning their second match against Uganda’s St. Bridgid by three straight sets, of (25-06 25-22 25-07).
