FIFA postpones meeting with FKF, SDT to May 2020
- Fifa had called for the meeting between the four parties after it rejected the Tribunal’s request for them to form a Normalization Committee to oversee Kenyan’s football.
The much anticipated meeting between the Sports Ministry, Football Kenya Federation, Sports Disputes Tribunal and world football governing body Fifa that was primed for today in Nairobi has been pushed to May 2020.
In a letter addressed to FKF CEO Barry Otieno, and which Citizen Digital has accessed, Fifa argues that in light of the Covid-19 threat that is ravaging the globe, coupled with their “institutional travel restrictions”, the meeting that was set for Nairobi today has been postponed.
Veron Mosengo –Omba, Fifa’s Chief Member Associations Officer said in the letter that the meeting shall take place upon receipt of further information from FKF‘s side on the health situation in Kenya.
Fifa had called for the meeting between the four parties after it rejected the Tribunal’s request for them to form a Normalization Committee to oversee Kenyan’s football.
The Tribunal, in its ruling, had also invalidated FKF’s election for the second time in a row, opening a Pandora box but Fifa quashed the ruling, thus extending the stay into office of FKF’s top leadership and decision making organ, the National Executive Committee ( NEC)
The meeting is aimed at finding a way forward on the thorny matter, triggered by election dispute.
