Stuck at the bottom, fight gets tougher for the Machine

With the going getting tougher in Kenya Cup, Mean Machine have earmarked navigating their way out of the relegation zone as their top priority.

According to head coach Ramsfield Matekwa, his charges will give everything to evade the chop at the expense of a play-off place.

The varsity side sit last in the 12-team log with five points, five adrift of 11th placed Strathmore Leos after 10 rounds and Matekwa is optimistic his charges will finish above relegation zone at the end of the season, to evade the chop.

“Our first target was to play in the play-offs but we are now fighting out of the relegation battle.”

This weekend the students face Nakuru based Menengai Oilers at the Nairobi University ground, Nairobi and Matekwa is confident that they will collect the maximum points to steer their hopes of safety.

“Tactically we want to change our mental approach because in the past we have played against Oilers and won; so we need to have a positive mind to the game,” he said.

He went on: “There are things that we’re building up on since we’ve watched more of the games played by Oilers; we’re actually building up a few structures to help us recover from our current poor form.”

Matekwa believes that his charges will be victorious when they host Blak Blad, Top Fry Nakuru and Impala Saracens in match round 13, 14 and 15 respectively after narrow defeats in the first leg.

“Winning three out of our five upcoming matches will help us to come out of the relegation zone,” Matekwa added.

Mean Machine got promoted to the Kenya Cup this season after finishing second behind Menengai Oilers in the Championship last term.
