Final KPL All Stars squad for La Liga trip named
Bolton Omwenga of Kariobangi Sharks and Posta Rangers’ Farouk Shikhalo were axed from the KPL All Stars team as head coach Stanley Okumbi named the final 18-man squad for the Spanish La Liga tour on Wednesday.
Okumbi had released a list of 20 players on Monday that was to be reduced to 18 after final assessment of the players in training, which has culminated to the latest development.
The exclusion of Shikhalo leaves two goalkeepers in the squad, Gor Mahia’s Boniface Oluoch and Sofapaka’s Matthias Kigonya.
AFC Leopards and Gor are the best represented clubs in the team with three players each, while Sharks, Tusker FC and Sofapaka have two respectively.
The team is set to jet out for Spain on Sunday morning via Instabul (Turkey). They will play Córdoba Club de Fútbol on Wednesday, before taking on Sevilla Atlético on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials and their KPL Limited counterparts forming part of the delegation to Spain will attend a two-day seminar at the La Liga Headquarters from Monday, before returning on Monday, July 24.

Forwards: Victor Omondi (Nzoia), Vincent Oburu (AFC), Samuel Onyango (Ulinzi).
Technical bench: Stanley Okumbi (Head coach), John Kamau (Assistant coach) and Wycliffe Makanga (Team Doctor).
