Financial conundrum: Migne new role a relief for cash-strapped FKF

Former Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne employment by the Equatorial Guinea as head coach has come as a reprieve to cash-strapped Football Kenya Federation (FKF), reducing the financial burden on the latter as far as payment of his dues resulting from contract termination is concerned.

When FKF terminated his contract in August, shortly after Kenya crashed out of CHAN, the two parties entered into an agreement that the federation would pay his monthly salary until March 2020 so long as he did not secure a new job by then.

However, the agreement stipulated that upon securing employment elsewhere, Migne would surrender the privileges two months after hence his new role as Equatorial Guinea coach has come as a great relief to the federation.

FKF Communications Manager told Citizen Digital Wednesday that the federation will pay Migne’s dues until the end of next month as part of the agreement.

“He started working with Equatorial Guinea effective November 2019, thus he will get his dues from the Kenyan federation until December. From January next year everything will have been settled,” said FKF Communications Manager Ken Okaka.

Thus, the remaining puzzle concerning coaches owed by FKF lie in the Bobby Williamson and Adel Amroche cases.

While FKF has appealed against the order to pay Williamson Sh55 million, they have no option but to pay Amrouche a whopping Sh108 million as ruled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

FKF asked the Ministry of Sports to clear Amrouche’s money, but the strained relationship between the Ministry’s PS Amb. Peter Kaberia and federation boss Nick Mwendwa have not helped the situation.

Meanwhile, Migne is currently in Kenya with his new team preparing for the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Tanzania.
