First Lady Marathon gets Ksh 52.68M boost

The forthcoming First Lady’s Half Marathon received an additional Ksh 52.68M financial boost from public and private organizations as the countdown to the third edition that will run on March 6 continues.

Wednesday’s financial support is in addition to the Ksh 113 million in cash and kind donations that the First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta received a week ago on behalf of the ‘Beyond Zero’ Campaign.

The funds raised through the Marathon are aimed at purchasing the remaining eleven fully kitted mobile clinics for an equal number of counties. So far, the Beyond Zero Campaign has distributed 36 Mobile Clinics to 36 counties.

The rest of the funds will be used to refurbish hospital wards and the mobile clinics. The First Lady also plans to set up a state-of-the art hospital for women and children as the ultimate goal of the Beyond Zero campaign.

Kenya Commercial Bank donated Ksh20m with a promise from the group’s chairman Mr. Ng’eny Biwott that the institution will continue supporting the Beyond Zero campaign until all the remaining counties receive the mobile clinics.

Vivo Energy gave Ksh10m with the group’s Retail Manager Ms Lena Munuve praising the initiative for its mission to inspire action and change lives and they will send a team of 24 to take part in the race.

Other sponsors included Kenya-Re Corporation, Britam, Parapet Cleaning Services and Reelforge Advertising Company which contributed Ksh5m each.

Additional contributions were made by Kay Construction Company (Ksh1.5 million), Firm Bridge Advertising Company (Ksh1.68m) and Dykoe Company which donated Ksh1m.

The First Lady thanked the donors saying their support will go a long way in helping achieve the goals of the Beyond Zero initiative. She said the Beyond Zero initiative was benefitting everybody and not just women and children.
