Four experienced high-performance technical coaches advanced to the national women’s volleyball team, Malkia Strikers have officially linked up with the squad as they intensify training ahead of  Tokyo Olympics.

The four are Luizomar de Moura – head coach of the Brazilian volleyball club Osasco, Jefferson Arosti, strength & conditioning trainer Marcelo Vitorino de Souza, and team manager Roberto Opice Neto.

The Malkia Strikers coaches, led by head coach Paul Bitok will also take part in the project, as part of the empowerment program.

The coaches who are in Kenya for the scoping phase of the project will work with the team until the end of the month. They are here to observe the current situation of the team.

The objective is to assist the only African representative in the Olympics to improve their technical performance and its general performance beyond Tokyo in order to change global perception of African women volleyball at the global stage.

“The main reason we are here is because of the FIVB volleyball empowerment project that is looking for the improvement of volleyball in different areas around the world,” said Roberto Opice.

As part of the program, Malkia Strikers will tour Brazil in early May before returning to the country where they will take a one week before returning to camp for 10 days then head to an invitational FIVB organised tournament in Turkey before departing for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

The Kenyan team will feature at the Olympic Games for the first time since the 2004 edition in Athens. The 2020 Olympic Games pushed backward following the spread of coronavirus, is set to be held July 23rd-August 8th in Tokyo, Japan.
