FKF boss Mwendwa backs Starlets to see out Uganda

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa Friday threw weight behind the national women’s team Harambee Starlets ahead of their 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations return leg fixture against Uganda.

The FKF chief also asserted that head coach David Ouma is the right man for the job as the Starlets jetted out to Entebbe carrying a 1-0 first leg advantage thanks to Lilian Adera’s strike in Machakos.

“We expected a win from Ouma and he delivered, he is a very experienced coach who through the federation he got a chance to sharpen his skills in Germany last year and I believe he will really ensure the team features in 2019 AWCON tournament.

“The qualifiers stage need someone like Ouma who deeply understands the team as well as their opponents. As a federation we will continue giving him our support and I am sure we shall defeat Uganda come Sunday,” Mwendwa said.

Kenyan international Esse Akida is among five players dropped for the trip owing to her academic commitments with Esther Nandika, Monica Karambu, Vivian Nasaka Makokha and Wyncate Kaari also left out.

The aggregate winner of the match is set to face Equatorial Guinea in the second and final qualifying round.
