FKF President Sam Nyamweya arrested over Harambee Stars travel mix-up

FKF President Sam Nyamweya has been arrested by flying squad officers at his house in Karen over the mix-up with Harambee Stars travel arrangements experienced on Monday.

The national team was left stranded at Wilson Airport for over eight hours after their trip to Cape Verde experienced a hitch after the owner of the chartered plane  demanded payment before take-off.

The team first refused to travel over unpaid allowances, with some of the international players claiming a refund of the air tickets they purchased to honour the first leg encounter in Nairobi.

After the issue was resolved, the players travelled to Wilson Airport ready to depart for Cape Verde but the trip was delayed after the owner of the airplane demanded payment.

The incident had infuriated Kenyans with most football fans calling for the arrest of FKF President Sam Nyamweya over the disorganisation.

Through the hashtag #ArrestNyamweya, Kenyans expressed their displeasure with the FKF boss and his management team for failing to settle the players’ arrears in time.

The Kenyan team finally managed to travel, minutes past 7:30pm, following intervention by the government.

Reports indicate that Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario arrived at the airport and facilitated travel arrangements for the team.

The national team is set to take on Cape Verde Tuesday evening in the return leg of the World Cup Qualifiers.

Harambee Stars won the first leg 1-0 in a match played at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
