FKF says no to SDTs stakeholders meeting

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has rejected a call by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) to participate in a “stakeholders meeting” that was set for Tuesday afternoon.

Citizen Digital  has seen the letter by FKF addressed to STD, explaining the reasons for keeping off the meeting, importantly pointing out the move would preempt world football governing body FIFA’s awaited meeting on the federation’s overdue elections.

Further, the federation in the letter, shows discomfort with the way the SDT has presided over the cases relating to the elections since late last year, signalling vacated arbitration role as it were.

A source privy to the ongoings at the federation intimated the SDT was not clear on the other stakeholders supposed to be on the meeting, supposed to kickoff 2:30pm on Tuesday.

“There are so many football stakeholders in the country, but they (FKF top officials) don’t know who exactly they were supposed to have in the meeting. Then they argue, that not every so called stakeholder is in position to deliberate on matters elections…” said the source.

FIFA is yet to set a date for the meeting that it pronounced itself on after the March 17 STD’s ruling, having been invited by the tribunal to form a Normalization Committee to run Kenya’s football.

Instead, FIFA said it will meet the SDT, FKF and the Ministry of Sports to discuss how the elections will be conducted, but the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic has hindered the meeting.
