FKF to honor high-flying Starlets ahead of AWCON duty

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will host a luncheon session in honor of the national women’s football team on Thursday afternoon ahead of their departure to Limbe, Cameroon a day later.

The Harambee Starlets, coming off a 1-0 win over Egypt on Friday, will afford barely a day’s rest once they arrive at the Central African state before playing the national team on Monday for their friendly return leg.

The Cameroonians were 1-0 winners over the Starlets in the reverse fixture and will offer David Ouma a glimpse of what to expect against top sides when the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) kicks off in November, 19.

The Starlets, who are representing the East African region have been grouped against champions Nigeria, Ghana and Mali in a tough pool B and will face Ghana on November 20 in their opening fixture of the tournament.

“We are finalizing our preparations before departing on Friday. We gave our players some time off last weekend after the match against Egypt and on Saturday did a medical test for Confederation of African Football (CAF) before training yesterday,” Team Manager, Doreen Nabwire, told Citizen Digital while revealing the final list of 21 players is expected to be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, CAF has named 11 referees and 14 assistants that will officiate at the tournament.
