FKF to make few changes on KPL management in 2020

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) says it intends to enact ‘a few changes’ on how the country’s top-flight league is managed when their contract with the Kenyan Premier League Ltd expires in 2020.

FKF Media Chief Barru Otieno said the change of rules is meant to curb wrangles between the national governing body and league management company while also streamlining its operations.

“We hope to finally put to rest the many wrangles and court cases involving the federation and the KPL,” Barry said.

Among things that the FKF seeks to amend is how the KPL Chairmanship is awarded where a rotational system will be adopted to replace the current where the chairman of the club that wins the league title assumes the post.

According to FKF, the current system is discriminatory to the smaller clubs which ‘may never’ win a league title.

Gor Mahia FC Chairman Ambrose Rachier, who has been the KPL chair for the last three seasons, said he does not oppose FKF’s proposal.
