Floundering Shabana seek winning formula

Shabana team manager Elijah Sani is positive his side will find a winning formula soon enough after a poor start to the season.

The glamour boys have collected only a point from their first three outings of the season having drawn once against Mt Kenya United and lost to Chemeil Sugar and Kisumu All Stars, and will go all out for victory when they face fellow promotion hopefuls Mwatate FC this weekend.

The Gusii stadium-based side has struggled financially in recent times after failing to find a sponsor on multiple attempts and that setback seems to have had an impact on their performances with training sessions being interrupted often.

Sani says their ambition is to remain relevant in the title race despite their recent poor run of form.

“We have performed poorly in our first three fixtures and we believe that is normal just like any other team that is playing in the league.

“Our objective at the moment is to find a winning form that will propel us to higher positions on the log,” he told Citizen Digital.

Having recruited heavily in preseason, the poor gelling of players can be deemed to be the main hindrance to the team’s performances so far, an element he says they will overcome in due course.

“If you look at our squad today you will be satisfied with the individual abilities of the players and their willingness to compete at the highest level.

“This aspect is very important since it will push us to achieve our goals this season. I’m confident we will work out our problems soon and start to win our matches.

“Our fans want us to do well and that can be seen on how they tirelessly help the team. Their support pushes us to do well because we know they want only the best for us. We do not want to let them down.”

Shabana sit one place above the relegation playoff slot, at position 16, and will be aiming for a quick turnaround of results.
