Khan has for sometime expressed his desire to fight the pound-for-pound king and at 28 years, he feels like time is running out for him to set up a fight with Mayweather.

Khan has also dismissed any possibilities of an imminent all-British showdown with domestic welterweight and Sheffield rival Kell Brook who successfully defended his IBF title at the weekend with a win over Frankie Gavin.

H believed that his win over Chris Algieri in New York on Friday have incre4ased the chances of the fight happening in the United States in September.

“I don’t think I have ever been closer t getting the fight with Mayweather than I am at this moment,” Khan told Press Association Sport.

“The indications are that I have strengthened my case with my win over Algieri and I believe there is every chance the fight could be confirmed within the next two weeks.”

SkySport expert Johnny Nelson however believed Amir Khan is simply ‘too good’ to be considered as a possible opponent for Floyd Mayweather

Nelson fears that Mayweather may turn down the opportunity to fight the Bolton man in a favour of a less assignments as he approaches the end of his career.

“I would be very, very surprised if he gets to box Floyd Mayweather,” Nelson told Sky Sports News HQ.
