Flying start for Homeboyz in Kenya Cup

Homeboyz RFC overcame Kenya Harlequins 41-39 in their opening game of the Kenya Cup at the RFUEA grounds on Tuesday.

Cyprian “Manguvuman” Kuto was the tormentor- in -chief as he bagged a brace for the ‘Deejays’ to send them on top of the Kenya Cup log.

Kenya Harlequins kick started their campaign with two penalties from Eric Shikuku and Kevin Nganga but a chip and chase kick from debutant Mohammed Omolo set up Kuto for his first try, making for an engrossing duel.

Veteran Kenya Harlequins star Tony Mutai successfully bagged a brace but debutant Israel Soi in his first game ran over a few Harlequins defenders before offloading to Kuto for his second try.

Harun Lubisia added the extras for Homeboyz to make the scores 31-29 before Harlequins Peter Misango got on the score sheet to take the game to a 31-36.

Centre Israel Soi chased a well taken overhead kick by Harun Lubisia to make sure they camped inside Harlequins 22 yard territory.

The last time the two teams met was at the Impala Floodlights where Homeboyz beat their chief opponents 20-19 to knock them out of the tournament.

The game had been rescheduled to allow players attend burials of their fallen teammates.

Harlequins will face Nakuru at the RFUEA grounds in their second game of the season while Homeboyz face Nondies at the Jamhuri Showground.
