Flying start for Leopards, Sharks in FKF Shield as Ulinzi crash out

Big guns AFC Leopards and Cup holders Kariobangi Sharks recorded huge and easy victories in the round of 32 as the 2019 FKF Shield got underway across various stadia on Saturday.

Leopards mauled little known Transfoc FC 4-0 at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega as Sharks who are bidding to defend the crown hit  Elim FC 5-0, also at the same venue, while little known  Supperstars sent Sofapaka crashing out of the tourney after a 5-4 post match penalty victory after a 0-0 draw in normal time.

A brace from Henry Juma, and a goal apiece from debutant Nicholas Omondi, Eric Kapaito and Sydney Lokale propelled the Muluya-coached side to a promising start.

Elsewhere, Brian Marita’s prolific antiques propelled Ingwe to a victorious start over Transfoc FC at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Ghanaian Isaac Oduro gave Leopards the lead in the 13th minute through a penalty after Brian Marita’s shirt was tagged in the six-yard area.

Marita was at it again when he tapped in Jaffrey Awiti’s cross to set the scores at 2-0 few minutes after the breather. Oburu scored the third through from a well-placed Narita pass from the left flank after which Marcel Kaheza sealed the game with a beautiful goal a few minutes before stoppage time.

Similarly Ulinzi Stars bowed out at the first hurdle after being shocked by SS ASAD  in post-match penalties after a barren draw in a match played at Ukunda grounds.
