Flying Thunder preying on USIU

Thunder will hope to carry their winning momentum into the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) when they take on USIU on Saturday.

Thunder were in imperious form on Wednesday as they silenced the visiting Ghana Revenue Authority 64-62 in a hotly contested match held at the Shauri Moyo grounds.

GRA had previously enjoyed dominance in their weekend  matches both male and female sides after thrashing Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS) 70-65 before overcoming Far East Basketball Association (FEBA) 62-56.

Nson’s boys however flipped the script on Wednesday after overcoming GRA 64-62 in a closely contested match. Coming off a fruitful weekend after beating Trailblazers 69-52 in their premier league match, Thunder continued with their winning streak.

Thunders thirst for win was evident from the kick off whistle having outscored the Ghanaians 19-16,15-14,20-19 in the first ,third and fourth quarters respectively leaving to spare the second quarter for the visitors who won 13-10.

Kevin Chogo emerged the top scorer for Thunder with 21 points followed by Griffin Lugari who scored 12 points. Emmanuel Ammoah and Patrick Dzotbetsi 17 and 14 points respectively were not able to seal the victory against Thunder. GRA however edged out Riara Bucks 90-40.

In the women’s match, GRA were able to overpower Storms 54-41 in an entertaining match held at the USIU grounds.

Versatile Forward, Mercy Wanyama’s 19 points and 14 rebounds however could not secure the win against the Ghanaians who were fluent in their execution having only 13 turnovers compared to Storms 22.

Speaking to citizen digital, Coach Abel Nson who doubles up as the Thunder and Storms coach expressed happiness with his sides for their overall performance; having being their first ever international friendly to participate and for showing an amazing display of performance.

In other women’s matches, GRA were able to edge out newly promoted Zetech side 35-33 in a match that saw both teams constantly displaying a see saw performance in results.

Both Strathmore male and female teams however are looking forward to emerge victorious as they face GRA in today’s late fixture scheduled at 5pm and 3PM at the USIU and Strathmore grounds respectively, before the Ghanaians finish their one week tour facing Ulinzi Warriors on Saturday 3PM at the Kasarani Stradium.
