Former Champions Kwanthanze first to qualify for semis

Recently crowned Eastern Region volleyball champions Kwanthanze are the first team to qualify for the semi finals in the ongoing national Secondary schools term two B ball games in Nyeri.

The 2015 East Africa champions booked the semi finals berth after winning their second match in a row in group B against North Eastern region champions Makoror by 3-0 sets.

In all the three sets Mokoror could not match the Machakos based team prowess as they lost 25-2, 25-3 and 25-2.

In day one under Coach Justin Kigwari, the volleyball titans won against Lugulu girls from the Western region by the same 3-0 margin.

Speaking in a post match interview, Jane Mumbua who plays as a setter in the team is confident that the team will reclaim the national title which evaded them last year.

“With now our eyes in Semis what I can say is that we are capable of reaching the finals if we play the way we have played in the group stages and also in regionals stages at Machakos,” she told Citizen Digital.

However Mumbua says she is aware of the threat which might be posed by their opponents in semis.

“Every game is a final and being a national stage every team is tough and we are not underrating anyone. So as our coach tells us we will take a game at a time,” She concluded.

In other matches Lugulu girls have revived their hopes of qualifying for the semis after winning their first match on the second day, beating Sega of Nyanza 3-0.
