Former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro lands new job

Former Chelsea team doctor Eva Carneiro is set to land a job at Championship side Charlton Athletic after the conclusion of her legal dispute against The Blues.

Doctor Carneiro and physio John Fearn had a fall out with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho for legitimately entering the field to treat injured Eden Hazard during the stoppage time of their match against Swansea when they were both tied at 2-2.

The two were subsequently dropped from the first-team duties on August 8, 2015.

The incident raised a storm in Chelsea’s camp with most of the staff accusing Mourinho of indecent treatment of Eva Carneiro during opening match of the Barclays Premier League.

It is said that the partner of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic, Dash Zhukova, along with wives and partners of the players felt Mourinho was heavy-handed and disrespectful to the doctor.

In a ruling, the Football Association ruled that Jose Mourinho will not be charged for allegedly making offensive utterances directed to doctor Carneiro, a ruling that elicited protest from Women FA and Doctor Carneiro.

“I was surprised to learn that the FA was allegedly investigating the incident of August 8 via the press. I was at no stage requested by the FA to make a statement,” said Carneiro.

“I wonder whether this might be the only formal investigation in this country where the evidence of the individuals involved in the incident was not considered relevant. Choosing to ignore some of the evidence will surely influence the outcome of the findings.

The Championship side want Carneiro to work with first team physio Erol Umut and club doctor John Fraser.

Last week, the 42-year-old served Chelsea with legal papers ahead of what could be a fierce court battle.

Carneiro is accusing Chelsea of unfair dismissal and intends to seek a claim over the same.

The move is set to trigger an employment tribunal which could only be averted by an out-of-court settlement that can be agreed on before the hearing starts. The three-month period in which a claim must be notified ends on November 8, 2015.

According to set regulations, the employment tribunal hearing would take place in public and could damage Chelsea’s reputation.

It was not immediately clear what the club’s stand is on the matter, owing to their previous pronouncements that they cannot comment on internal staffing matters.

In addition to suing the club, Carneiro is suing Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho for his role in her dismissal.

Mourinho is set to be served the legal papers this week and may be required to appear at an employment tribunal in person unless the case is settled out of court.

Under employment law, an individual can be personally liable for damages if victimization or discrimination can be proved.

Charlton are currently second last in the Championship with 10 points from 14 matches, just a point above Rotherham.
