Former Chelsea player Didier Drogba introduced to Montreal Impact

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba was officially introduced as the newest member of the Montreal Impact Thursday night at a news conference in Quebec.

The 37-year-old Ivorian held up his new #11 jersey with Impact president Joey Saputo and head coach Frank Klopas to a cheering crowd of team supporters and journalists at Saputo Stadium.

“It’s pretty simple, I wanted to come and play in the MLS, the fact that players like Nesta, De Vaio played here before,” Drogba said when asked what brought him to Montreal. “And also the fact that Montreal is French speaking.”

Drogba will have to wait until he gets his Canadian work permit before he can take the field for the Impact and it is expected that he will make his debut next week against the New York Red Bulls.

Drogba joins an MLS roster that includes Englishmen Steven Gerrard (Los Angeles) and Frank Lampard (New York City), Brazilian Kaka (Orlando), Spaniard David Villa (New York City) and Italian Andrea Pirlo (New York City).
