Former Gor captain Musa hails new FKF sponsorship deal

Former Gor Mahia FC captain Musa Mohammed says the sponsorship deal reached by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will go a long way in giving Kenyan clubs the financial base to pay its players better.

FKF said last week it had reached a record Sh1.2 billion deal with a Nigerian gaming firm with the deal set to see clubs receive at least Sh8 million annually in grants.

Musa added that the sponsorship will change the face of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) by making it more competitive.

“Many of our players have gone through tough times in the league and the sponsorship spells hope and light at the end of the tunnel. Our league has not been that stable but this could be a new beginning,” Musa said.

KPL champions Gor Mahia FC and rivals AFC Leopards’ players have gone for more five months without salaries and the situation is worse off at the smaller clubs.
