Formula One star Jules Bianchi buried

Formula One stars and fans gathered at Nice cathedral on Tuesday to pay a final tribute to French F1 driver Jules Bianchi, who died on Saturday.

Bianchi, 25, died in a Nice hospital of critical head injuries sustained at last year’s Japanese Grand Prix.

Bianchi had been in a coma since the accident at Suzuka last October. He passed away at a hospital in Nice, near his parents’ home in the south of France.

Many F1 stars, including Frenchmen Sebastien Grosjean and Alain Prost, as well as International Automobile Federation President Jean Todt, made the trip to Southern France to attend the ceremony, held in the Sainte-Reparate cathedral in the historic centre of Nice.

Hundreds of fans gathered outside the church and applauded the late driver as pallbearers carried his coffin inside.

Bianchi had made his F1 debut with Ferrari-powered Marussia in 2013, scoring that team’s first and to date only points in Monaco last year when he finished ninth.
