Four candidates to snub FKF nominations exercise

Twaha Mbarak and Sammy Sholei have confirmed that four Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential aspirants will not present their nomination papers ahead of the national football elections.

Sam Nyamweya and Nicholas Musonye have been mentioned by Twaha Mbarak and Sammy Sholei that they will not participate in the exercise which they have termed as flawed.

On Monday, aspirants are required to present their papers for the presidential seat at FKF’s offices and will be led by the Electoral Board chairperson Kentice Tikolo.

“I will be in Nairobi today early in the morning to meet with Sam Nyamweya, Nicholas Musonye, Sammy Sholei and other aspirants that have agreed not to hand hand over our papers today Monday 31st August 2020 simply because the exercise is not free and fair,” Twaha told Citizen Digital.

His counterpart Sammy Sholei has said that they will not accept to go into a contest he alleges is already rigged.

“The incumbent has already rigged himself back into the office and it will be a waste of time to participate in the exercise. The monies the aspirants will give will just help to facilitate the exercise but we will continue to press and get justice, only the court will be able to help us.” Said Sammy.

“It will be a waste of time to hand in nomination papers. The exercise has been stopped twice and I can assure you it will be stopped again because FKF have refused to follow the laws with the voter register verification exercise being shambolic and a mockery of what is acceptable,” added Sholei.

Other presidential aspirants are expected to present their papers in readiness to face off with incumbent Nick Mwendwa, who will be seeking another four-year term in office.

The Electoral Board has already set on September 19 for grassroots polls across the 47 counties while on October 17 is the date for the national elections.

It will be the third time that the FKF is trying to hold elections.

The previous two exercises were nullified by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) last December and in March this year, with SDT ruling the rules of engagement were flouted on both occasions.
