From gun to tape, Obiri defends title in style

After a disappointing outing in the 10,000m finals, Hellen Obiri bounced back to defend her 5,000m title in style on Friday night at an ecstatic Khalifa International Stadium, as Kenyans on the terraces cheered her every step to glory.

Obiri led from the gun to tape timing 14:26.7 (a Championship Record) to not only win her second successive gold at the World Championships as she also delivered Kenya’s fourth gold medal in the championship.

It was a night of double success for Kenya as Margaret Chelimo bagged Kenya’s first silver medal in the championship placing second behind Obiri in a Personal Best of 14:27.4.
