Gallant Shujaa crush Argentina, sail to Challenge Trophy final

Shujaa qualified for the London Sevens Challenge Trophy finals after a resounding 42-10 win over  Argentina at the famous Twickenham Stadium in London on Sunday.

Kenya will now await the outcome of the other semifinal match between Russia and Wales to know who they’ll tackle in the final.

At the Twickenham Stadium, quick tries from Collins Injera, Homeboyz RFC Augustine Lugonzo and Kenya Harlequins burly winger Willy Ambaka, converted by teammate Eden Agero,  ensured Shujaa were on the driving seat as they led 21-05 at the interval.

Soon after the break, a series of neat passes saw the Argentines cut the deficit to 21-10, but a powerful run from Homeboyz winger Jeff Oluoch to offload to Billy Odhiambo on the left wing saw Shujaa widen the lead to 28-10, with just two minutes left on the clock.

However the East Africans were not done yet as Kabras Sugar scrumhalf Brian Tanga tangled in between the Argentina defence for a converted try to take the scores to 35-10 .

Former captain Andrew Amonde then side-stepped his way through the Argentina defence soon after the restart to score under the posts, just in the nick of the whistle for a 42-10 convincing win.

The win helped Shujaa attain it’s pre-season target of 100 points, reaching the milestone for the first time in history.

Kenya had already accumulated 93 points after nine rounds. Placed  sixth on the Series table,  a win over either Russia or Wales will see them accumulate 101 points at the conclusion of the London Sevens.

“We wanted to play in the Cup quarterfinals unfortunately we didn’t proceed but our target was to reach 100 points and we are happy we have done it,’  Collins Injera said.
