Gatundu South women team’s Tanzania trip in doubt

Gatundu South Sports Football (Gaspo) junior women under 13 and 16 teams are desperately appealing for help to honour their invitation for this week’s East Africa Cup tournament in Moshi, Tanzania.

Team manager, Edward Githua, told Inooro FM their trip is in jeopardy since they cannot raise the finances required to participate.

“We have tried to solicit for funds from our leaders in Kiambu County, but nothing is coming and we have three days only to travel to Tanzania,” the official said.

The tournament comprises of 90 teams from East Africa where the Gaspo is due to feature for the fourth time.

“We have a budget of Kshs160,000 and we have been able to raise Kshs47,000 only and so we are asking for help to raise the deficit,” he appealed.

Gaspo has representation across Gatundu South Constituency and uses sports and other pro-youth activities to mobilize youth towards achieving their shared dreams.

“If we don’t give our girls a chance with this team, they will feel devastated and lose morale,” added the team manager.

Their tournament record includes the Under 16 side finishing third in 2011 before winning the trophy in 2012 and 13.

Gaspo’s senior side has nine points in the FKF Women Premier League and played Mombasa Olympics over the weekend.

The team has produced several players for national team Harambee Starlets in different categories.
