Gaya attributes Thunders strong start to experience
Thunder head coach Sadat Gaya has attributed their strong start to the basketball league to experience after they hammered Lakeside 59-52 on Saturday before thwarting Umoja 80-75 on Sunday in their opening round of matches.
Gaya who doubles up as the national team, Morans, assistant head coach, however, reckons a lot more still needs to be done as the team is yet to attain fluency and fluidity in their game.
“We’ve strengthened our guards and perimeter players and the defense really contributed a lot for the wins.
“We are still cooperating with new players. We are still struggling and we are looking forward to building team chemistry for the would-be bright future,” he said.
On his side, team captain Griffins Ligare echoed Gaya’s sentiments while at the same time warning against complacent.
“A good start for us, but we have a lot of work ahead of us because there is no room for laxity,” said Ligare who is also Morans’ captain..
Thunder now have four points after two matches and will be facing KU Pirates next Sunday at Nyayo Gymnasium.
Elsewhere, Strathmore’s Blades men team started off the campaign on flyer hammering KCA- University 73-68 at Nyayo Gymnasium last weekend.
“It’s a good start for us considering 60 % of the players were debuting. We are building game by game, making necessary adjustments and working on the team chemistry,” Blades’ captain George Okoth told Citizen Digital.
