Germany crush Kenyas tame Simbas in World Cup repechage

The Kenya rugby 15s, Simbas, bowed out of the 2019 World Cup repechage with their tails tucked between their legs after crashing 43-6 to Germany on Friday evening in their final match in Marseille, France, limping out without winning a single match.

The Simbas had lost 19-62 to Canada in their opener match followed by a 17-42 crashing defeat in the hands of Hong Kong.

The Ian Snook coached charges scored their points through two penalties converted by Sammy Oliech against Germany’s seven tries and four conversions.

So poor were Simbas that the Germans had a field day tearing through them like a knife piercing through a yam.

Simbas trailed by a half score against their opponents who had led 12-6 at halftime.

And just like in their previous two matches — against Canada and Hong Kong — they lost their game plan in the second half and conceded three converted tries to lose 43-6 at full time.

With the win the Germans rose to position two on 9 points with the winner between Canada and Hong Kong qualifying for the Rugby World Cup set for Japan next year.

Simbas will now shift gears to the 2019 Africa Gold Cup where they came second behind finished Namibia this season.

Reacting to the poor outfit, skipper Wilson Opondo called for more friendly matches to help the team rectify their mistakes before major assignments.

“We worked on our technical aspect but we still need to work on that a bit more and at the same time we need to have such calibre of test matches so as to raise our level .The more we do this the better we get going forward.”
