Get your act right or ship out, Cardovillis to KRU

Kabras Sugar RFC head coach Charles Cardovillis has challenged the Kenya Rugby Union to put their house in order or vacate office.

Cardovillis sentiments come in the wake of a studious silence from the union even as the referees’ conundrum shows no sign of ending.

The officials have downed tools demanding amongst others, a look into their welfare, and the payment of bonuses owed to them running into millions of shillings.

Early this weekend, Citizen Digital authoritatively reported how poor officiating has reduced the rugby matches into fist-fights as players and clubs take the law into their own hands.

And an unimpressed Kabras boss has now broken his silence calling for swift action.

He said: “Leadership is the issue here because I have been to clubs and national teams and it saddens me to see the same mistakes repeated especially at the top, and that’s where the top management should come in to ensure everything is done well and a common ground is reached.”

Cardovillis also said that the players’ welfare is paramount if the game is to register growth.

“The union has to focus on the welfare of our teams and players.Whatever the circumstances, I am disappointed that some people want to hold the game at ransom,” Cardovillis said.

KRU is yet to comment on the current standoff between them and the Kenya Rugby Referee Society, with the officials downing their tools until their welfare is addressed.

But even as the stand-off persists, Cardovillis is urging for a quick resolution as the top six teams prepare for the playoffs in March.

“It’s sad that after a week of training hard and fans turning out in large number to watch the lovely game, officials do not turn up,” Cardovillis mourned.

Meanwhile, several matches are up on the cards on Saturday beginning 4 pm with Kabras hosting Kisii RFC at the Mamboleo showground.
