Glamour as Kenya Sevens touchdown at JKIA
There was jubilation at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi as the Kenya Sevens rugby team jetted back into the country after winning the Singapore Sevens main cup final.
Several rugby fans and traditional dancers were at the airport hours before the team’s arrival and erupted into song and dance once the Kenyan champions touched down at 2:30PM.
Among government officials present to welcome the triumphant team were Sports CS Hassan Wario and Permanent Secretary Richard Ekae.
Kenya Airways CEO Mbuvi Ngunze, Kenya Airports Authority Acting Managing Director Yatich Kangugo and KRU Chairman Richard Omwela were also present.
Speaking during the ceremony which was aired live on Citizen TV, Omwela said the union was looking forward to replicating the results in subsequent outings.
The Kenyan team put up an outstanding performance to sink Series and Singapore defending champions Fiji 30-7 to win their first ever Main Cup, after four finals appearances and 114 tournaments on Sunday.
