Goodbye Telkom hockey, enter Blazers

The Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) women’s Premier League champions Telkom are set to re-brand to new name -Blazers.

The club has been without a sponsor ever since the main sponsor-  telecommunication company Telkom cancelled it’s partnership citing at the end of July this year.

Telkom had been the primary and sole sponsor of the Ladies Hockey team for the past 30 years during which the team has dominated both the local and continental scenes.

In a statement on Saturday, KHU revealed that the team will change its name to Blazers.

“Telkom ladies hockey team to rename to Blazers Hockey club following the withdrawal of sponsorship earlier this year, the journey must continue, let the flame Blaze on,” said KHU in a statement.

The new development has however had little effects on the team’s success as the champions are on course to retaining their title.

The African champions who are still unbeaten this season sit top of the league with 26 points from 10 outings.

The team was also buoyed by the return of veteran coach Jos Openda who came out of retirement to the touchline after leading the club to one of the most successful era in their history.
