Gor, AFC Ready for Mashemeji Derby as Security Assured

AFC Leopards Organising Secretary Timothy Lilumbi said the club has enlisted the services of a special police unit to man the gates and ensure security is maintained during the derby.

“A special police unit will be manning the gates on Sunday to ensure that everyone who enters the stadium is thoroughly checked,” he said.

He added that there will be a further 300 police officers in and outside the stadium before, during and after the match to ensure security is maintained.

Hot favourites to win the match

AFC Leopards, also known as Ingwe, will be meeting Gor Mahia (K’Ogalo) for the first time this season in the biggest match of the Kenya Premier League.

K’Ogalo have been touted as hot favourites to win the match coming from a 3-1 win over KCB on Wednesday with Ingwe coming from a 1-1 draw against Thika United in a match played in Mumias last weekend.

Having been eliminated from CAF champions League, Gor Mahia will now be looking to shift focus on defending the Premier League title with Ingwe gunning for the title they last won in 1998.

Gor Mahia are currently joint top with Western Stima on 12 points, though the former have a superior goal difference. AFC Leopards are placed 6th with 8 points.

The match will be played on Sunday at 1500 East African Time.
