Gor and Co. hold onto hard-line stance as TV Rights saga rages on

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier insists the clubs stand on broadcast rights fiasco remains firm even as Football Kenya Federation (FKF) gave Wednesday as the deadline for the clubs that haven’t signed the deal to do so.

According to the federation, Mathare United, Zoo FC and Ulinzi Stars are the three clubs that haven’t signed the deal.

Last week, Gor secretary general Sam Ochola signed the deal that was revoked by the club chairman.

“Our position is very clear and it is known by the federation, the fans as well as the sponsors. We have not made any developments in regards to our stand and thus it remains as it was last week.

We were ready to play against Zoo today. I don’t know why we have not received any communication from our opponent and I am very keen to know why,” Said Rachier.

Yesterday, Mathare United chairman Bob Munro said there is no law in football that allows club games to be postponed for having not signed a TV broadcast deal.

This came after FKF wrote a letter to Mathare, Ulinzi and Zoo informing them of the postponement of their mid week matches.

“We are in the league, has anybody heard anything to the contrary? How can you ask a team to sign an endorsement letter and a contract they haven’t seen? Has any of you ever seen any football rule where matches are being postponed because someone has questions about an off the field commercial agreement?” Posed Munro.

“There are bigger things going on currently which is not football but just politics which I don’t like because at the end of the day it is the players who suffer the most,” insisted the Mathare United Chairman.

Mathare were set to face Ulinzi Stars this afternoon while Zoo FC were to host the defending champions.

The trio clubs insist they cannot sanction the deal yet they do not know its contents while also contesting the fee being offered by the broadcast partner through the federation.
