Gor announce Everton travel date

Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia will fly to the United Kingdom on November 2 ahead of a friendly match with English Premier League side Everton FC.

The match is penciled for November 6 at Goodison Park.

Speaking at a press briefing in Nairobi on Wednesday, Gor’s coach Dylan Kerr said that the match offers a “fantastic chance to show the importance of Kenyan football”, adding that playing in England will open doors for Kenyan and East African players.

Kerr also called on the Kenya community in the UK to turn up in large numbers for the match to cheer K’Ogalo.

Match tickets will retail at 1 pound (Ksh 130) for those aged below 18 years and 5 pounds (around Ksh 650) for adults.

Gor earned the nod to face the English side after retaining the Super Cup, in a competition staged at the Afraha Stadium Nakuru in June, and which brought eight teams; four from Kenya and an equal number from Tanzania.

Also present at the briefing was Gor Mahia senior vice-chair John Pesa who called on the Government and stakeholders to support the club in its activities.

“We thank our sponsors for the good job they are doing.  We are calling for other organisations to support Gor Mahia, we are a big club,” said Pesa.

“The Ministry of Sports should treat Gor Mahia like any other team. We should be supported especially when we are travelling outside the country.

The clubs top scorer, Rwandese Jacques Tuyisenge said that the team has been fantastic in the league and they are ready to face the Toffees. “My job as a striker is to score goals, I promise Gor Mahia fans that I will do my job.”

Tuyisenge was on target when Gor played Everton for the first time at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, last year where they fell 2-1.

Gor Mahia will be the first club in Kenya Premier League history to play in the United Kingdom soil and against atop-tier side .Last year, a Kenyan select side named All Stars also faced Hull City on February 27 at KCOM Stadium.
