Gor boss Kerr wary of Ulinzi threat

Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr expects a battle when his side plays Ulinzi Stars on Saturday at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru in the only Kenya Premier League (KPL) fixture of the weekend.

The Englishman is fully aware of the kind of threat the opposition poses despite their ragged form having only collected five points from the last five games.

Dylan Kerr told Citizen Digital, “It is going to be a battle. Ulinzi have dropped a few points recently so they’ll want to show they can compete against the best. They are a very strong physical side with great energy.

“Their mid-week Cup game didn’t happen so they should be fresher so we have to make sure we approach the game with the right attitude and don’t concede,” said Kerr.

The tactician is also calling for his troops to continue with their all-conquering form as he lauds his squad’s impressive performances. However, he wants his strikers to be more clinical in front of opposition’s goal mouth citing that they score a few goals whilst creating lots of chances.

“The defence and the goalkeeper are conceding very few goals. In football, if you are not giving away goals, the strikers should always score. Meddie, Jacques and Ephraim make chances and score goals but we should score more for all the chances we create. We need to start being a bit more professional, positive in front of goal and hurt teams,” added the tactician.

Kerr will have tough choices to make on team selection as all his players are available after a mid-week game of the FKF shield cup.

A victory for the champions will strengthen their lead at the summit taking their points tally to 43 points with at least three games in hand opening a nine point gap on second placed Sofapaka.

Despite that and a possible procession to the title, the man calling the shots at Kogalo is shrugging off any talk of a 17th title.

He says, “We play each game as it comes. We focus on three points. For now, our mind is on Ulinzi. There is still a long way to go and we have a lot of tough games coming with a very packed fixture schedule. My team, technical staff and I are working on what is ahead of us. The rest we’ll think about as they come,”

The soldiers will be looking to re-ignite their winning form after enduring a rough patch that has them slip to 7th on the league standings. A win for Ulinzi will take them to 3rd level on points with Mathare United.
