Gor Mahia FC’s captain Kenneth Muguna admitted they lost to an opponent that was much more organized following their 2-1 CAF Champions League qualifying round defeat to Rwandan giants APR FC in Kigali.

Muguna says Gor can have no excuses for the first leg loss but added they must rally to overturn that deficit when the Rwandan giants visit Nairobi for the return leg on Friday.

“Every time the team is beaten there must be an excuse. Focus is more important than looking for excuses of past events. For us I can say we were beaten and they were the better side on the day,” Muguna said.

Gor went a goal down after Sefu Niyonzima’s opener and defender Charles Momanyi levelled matters but misfortunate struck in the second half when Andrew Juma turned the ball into his own net with an attempted clearance.

The Kenyan champions, who returned to the country on Sunday, can advance to the next round with a 1-0 or any win margin of two or more goals.

“We know the mistakes we made so we must learn and address them within the remaining days before the return leg. This is an important competition for the club and our fans and the intention is to progress as far as possible,” Muguna said.

Gor were knocked out of the first round of the CAF Champions qualification last season following a 6-1 aggregate loss to USM Alger before exiting the Confederation Cup at the hands of Congolese side Motema Pembe.
