Gor confront Wazito, aim to go fourth

Gor Mahia will be hoping to climb up to fourth on the FKF Premier League table when they visit Wazito at Utalii grounds Monday afternoon, in the only Premier League match on the cards. The defending champions are at position five with 28 points from 16 outings with two matches at hand.

Gor will be keen to collect maximum points after two of the top teams, AFC Leopards and KCB both lost their weekend matches to give KÓgalo a leeway to possibly get to the top.

Should Gor win the two matches at hand, they will climb to position four on the log with 34 points, four shy of leaders Tusker FC. They have a four-match win record in their latest Premier League matches.

Wazito, on the contrary, are winless in their last five outings, losing twice and sharing spoils in three matches. They are placed 10th on the log with 23 points from 16 outings.

In a recent interview, Gor assistant coach Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ said their target is to win every other match ahead of them and pray that the current leaders lose points on the road.

Omollo’s prayers seemed answered over the weekend when KCB lost 1-0 to Sofapaka while AFC Leopards granted three points to lowly placed Bidco FC in their 3-1 loss at home.

“If we can win our matches consecutively and say Tusker, AFC Leopards and KCB drop points, and then we can be sure to do what we are used(winning the title) to  represent Kenya at the continental level,” he enthused.

Should Gor finish top of the log by June 30, they will extend their dominance of representing Kenya at the CAF Champions League, having made it to the continental stage in the last four consecutive years,’’ said Omollo.

Team captain Harun  Shakava is also confident they can still attain the continental dram despite the financial challenges facing the club.
