Gor cruise past Congo Boys to advance in FKF Cup

Gor Mahia FC cruised into the FKF Cup round of 32 after securing a 3-0 win over Division One side Congo Boys at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa on Sunday.

Gor dominated the proceedings right from the start but had to wait until the 37th minute when Tito Okello scored the opening goal from Fred Nkata’s cross.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men two minutes before the break  after Sydney Ochieng was shown marching orders.

Manuel Vaz Pinto made three changes immediately after the break introducing Geoffrey Ochieng, Philemon Otieno and Alpha Onyango to tighten his defence line.

John Macharia scored Gor’s second goal two minutes from the interval collecting rebound from Geoffrey Ochieng’s cross.

Clifton Miheso then completed Gor’s party after being fed up by Tito Okello in the 62nd minute as they qualified to the last 32 of the Cup.

Gor’s coach Manuel Vaz Pinto applauded his boys for winning the match despite playing a whole half with 10 men.

“They worked extra hard when we were reduced which worked well for us and emerge victorious,” said Pinto.

K’Ogalo will now play against Cusco in the next round with the winner of the tournament representing Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup.
