Gor fail to capitalise after Thika sink Tusker

Champions Gor Mahia missed the chance to leap to the top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) in a dramatic round of midweek action after being held to a barren draw at Sony Sugar as leaders Tusker slumped to a shock 2-0 defeat to struggling Thika United on Wednesday.

A seventh minute goal by Onwudi Chibueze gave 14th placed Thika an early lead, with Eugene Mukangula hitting the decisive goal in the 38th to leave the Brewers hanging on at the summit on 37 points, two ahead of K’Ogalo who fired blanks at the Awendo Green Stadium.

In other matches of the day Kakamega Homeboyz came from behind to stun Mathare United 2-1 to cut the 2008 champions in fourth further from the leaders and they now trail by six points.

Whyvonne Isuza gave the visitors the lead four minutes to half-time and with a victory in sight, Andrew Kulecho levelled in the 75th. In the dying minutes of the match, the referee awarded the home side a penalty that gave Sunday Mutuku the opportunity to slot it past Robert Mboya to seal the turnaround.

Western Stima were however the biggest winners of the day when they decapitated Ushuru FC 4-0 in a one sided contest at Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium.

Wesley Onguso gave the visitors a one nil lead at the mid-way point of the first half before Fredrick Shimonyo and Kenneth Muguna shook the net in the 64th and 81st minutes.

Ushuru finished with 10-men after Nelson Marasowe was adjudged to have committed a foul and got his matching orders after being shown his second yellow.

Shimonyo grabbed his brace as he slotted past the Ushuru keeper in the 90th.
