Gor finally capture their man
Gor Mahia have confirmed the signing of midfielder Humphrey Mieno . Mieno who was among the 14 players released by Tusker has signed a two- year deal with the Kenyan Premier League champions.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, club deputy secretary general, Ronald Ngala, said the new recruit will be a great addition to the club.
“We have signed Mieno. He is a great player that we wanted to sign last season but he had a clause in his contract that he could not sign for a local club, but we are glad we found him for free,”gloated Ngala.
Mieno emerged as runners -up in the Midfielder of the Year category at last year’s Foya awards, when the team swept an incredible season double; bagging the league title and the GOtv-Shield under Ugandan coach Paul Nkata.
Ngala went on: “In the defensive midfield role we were looking for someone who would help us.Since the departure of Khalid Aucho and Collins Okoth, we have had a gaping hole in that position even though Ernest Wendo has been on top form.”
Ngala also confirmed more signings are expected by the end of Friday. “We are finalizing talks with a number of clubs and we expect to make the announcements in the evening.”
On claims that K’Ogalo was about to raid AFC Leopards for Dennis Sikhayi’s signature, Ngala equipped: “It will not be a good thing for Gor to sign a player from Leopards and vice versa. We are all representing the country in continental football and we both need strong teams for us to be competitive.”
Meanwhile, Tusker are expected to name their new coach by Saturday. Former Vihiga United coach Edward Manoah is among those tipped to take over at the Ruaraka hot seat, while caretaker coach, Francis Baraza, is also a strong candidate.
The club on Thursday dropped five senior players, among them, skipper James Situma, midfielder Cersidy Lumumba, striker Allan Wanga and Ghanaian forward Stephen Owusu .
“I’m relaxed; just taking my time until next year – that’s when I will make my next move. Three clubs have called me but at the moment I’m not making any move,”said Situma
