Gor go seven clear, Homeboyz hold KCB

Gor Mahia FC opened up a seven-point lead on top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings after claiming a 2-0 victory away at Tusker FC on Saturday.

Jacques Tuyisenge continued with his fine run in front of goal, giving K’Ogalo the lead in the 16th minute, Samuel Onyango getting the insurance goal in the 32nd minute as Hassan Oktay’s troops headed for the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Gor now lead the KPL standings on 52 points from 23 matches, six points clear second-placed Sofapaka who have played an extra two games, as Tusker remain eighth on 3 points after suffering an eighth defeat of the campaign.

In the first match at the same venue, Kakamega Homeboyz were saved of blushes in their one-all draw with KCB as Edwin Lavatsa reacted fastest to level for Nicholas Muyoti’s men after skipper Allan Wanga’s shot bounced off the cross bar.

Wingman Kennedy Owino got the bankers to a flying start slotting home in the first minute and were destined for an invaluable win, after suffering four successive defeats, before Lavatsa’s last gasp pounce.

Following the shared spoils, the Kakamega based side retain fourth spot with 42 points as Frank Ouna’s KCB rise to 12th following a return of 30 points from 26 rounds.

Elsewhere Kariobangi Sharks were left to rue complacency as a late show by Posta Rangers ensured a one-all stalemate at the Kasarani Stadium.

William Muluya’s troops were on the verge of a first win in five matches before Jockins Atudo stuck in the 89th minute to level the scores to move John Kamau’s mailmen four points off third-bottom Vihiga United who are stuck in relegation quagmire alongside Zoo Kericho and Mount Kenya United.

In the early kick off match of the day, visitors Nzoia Sugar out-staged Chemelil Sugar in a dramatic 2-1 win at the Chemelil Sports Complex to climb to 13th on 29 points from 24 matches as the hosts dropped to 14th on 28 points after a 12th loss of the 2018-19 campaign.

The millers’ derby had both sides finishing the game a man down after the referee unleashed two red cards in a span of ten second half minutes.
